The Littmann Master Cardiology is the peak of performance among Littmann’s non-digital offerings. The Master Cardiology is the peak of stethoscope design for fine auscultation. When I have used one of these in the past it has revealed the very best of valve sound clarity. This is a result of the high performance diaphragm that is central to its design.

The chestpiece and diaphragm of this model are really focused around acoustic clarity. While the tubing quality and thickness echoes that of the Littmann Cardiology III, I find that the diaphragm on this model is one of the few where I get a feel for what a truly tunable diaphragm should perform like. The quality of this device is apparent in its price point. Littmann backs this up with a strong warranty as well which is 7 years for this model.
I would find this model overkill for many uses, but in the acute care setting where I work I find it invaluable. With the majority of my population being adults; many of which have cardiac issues; I find this to be a great tool for cardiac assessment. I am not sure that I would find its use really attuned for pediatrics given its daunting appearance, but it can get the job done in a pinch.

Final Thoughts
If you need high precision diagnostic capabilities this is the stethoscope for you. If you do not, then you may be able to save money and buy a lower priced model. You don’t want to use this to take a blood pressure once a month. This is a workhorse piece of equipment for a high volume practice setting. The adult cardiology and pulmonary population will benefit strongly from use of this device by a skilled cardiology professional. Most doctors, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants will find this model to meet their needs for diagnosis.
